But when we speak, we usually don’t think about the characters—we just remember what we’ve heard. That’s why people often end up using the wrong word.
The correct form is “bujo” (부조), which comes from the character meaning “to help.”
So we say bujo, bujo money, or condolence/congratulatory money.
Bujo refers to helping out at events like weddings or funerals—it can mean support in the form of money, goods, or effort.
